Steamboat in Uptown

March and April, the drizzling season in Malaysia. What's on your mind, on a blustery day? What would you crave for, when it drizzles? A power nap, or food? For me, the answer would definitely be - A hot and piping Steamboat, that would keep me warm!

STEAMBOAT, one of the best choices, be it a gathering with friends, family dinner, or even a date with your Love.

But, the question is, now that we have so many choices of Steamboat, WHICH IS WORTH A TRY? So, I have tried a few of them recently, and would love to share some with you all. Let's get started!

I would share 2 different Steamboat restaurants in this post, they are both located in Damansara Uptown, next to each other. (I'll be sharing the address and number at the end of this post!)

1. JIRO Shabu

We ordered a set for Two, that comes with 9 choices of soup base. The Kimchi soup is highly recommended, as we had tried the others, and eventually, we still opted for Kimchi soup base after a few visits. (And that proves how scrumptious it is!)

The 9 choices of soup base are :-
1. Kimchi
2. Clear Kombu Dashi
3. Clear Chicken Soup
4. Vegetarian Clear Kombu Dashi
5. Suki-Shabu Dashi
6. Miso Dashi
7. Soy Milk Dashi
8. Spicy Miso Dashi
9. Tom Yum Soup

Even if you are a vegetarian, you could still attend the gathering because they actually provide Vegetarian Clear Kombu Dashi! (This makes life a lot easier! As I used to have my "vege days" that I often turned my friends down when they suggested for gathering or we will have to change to some vegetarian restaurants.)

We are also given the options for noodles :-
1. Yee Mee
2. Instant Noodles
3. Udon and etc. (I'd prefer to go for Udon as it is made of wheat flour and hence, healthier!)

Steamboat restaurants are very likely to have their spices and seasoning sections, but Jiro's one is to my liking because they do provide fried garlic, a.k.a my favourite! You know, by putting a scoop of fried garlic into your soup and keep it boiling, it will actually add some credit to it, it will taste flavourful. Trust me, try it out!

Then, introducing the Jiro Homemade fish cake to you. You could cut them into smaller pieces like slicing cakes. While a pinch of Salmon Roe would definitely bring some crispness to the chewy fishcake.

Look at the layers and the serving of Jiro's pork belly!

This set actually comes with watermelons, and a cup of refreshing lime juice to wash down your spiciness, which will be served after meal.

It will roughly cost about MYR80 for 2 persons, which I think is affordable as the serving is considered reasonable.

2. Next, I'll share about the Steamboat which is located at the next doorstep - Xiao Fei Yang

XFY is a very famous Mongolian-style steamboat, if you are a fan of Szechuan food, this is a MUST TRY!

They are serving 2 broth, but having 4 types of choices :-
1. Hot & Spicy Soup - Their Signature
2. Herbal Soup - for those who can't handle spicy food
3. Mixed
4. Extra SPICY (with a MYR5.00 top up) - worth the money $$

XFY also has their spices and seasoning sections, they are famous with their homemade peanut sauce. Never heard of it? Not sure how to mix it with other spices?

Here's a way from HIM (mix it!) :-
A. Garlic
B. Green Onion
C. Coriander
D. Vinegar
E. Soy Sauce
F. Chili Oil
G. Peanut Sauce

We ordered beef, mutton and pork at XFY, but it doesn't taste as good as the sliced Pork belly at Jiro (my own preference). Overall, it costs about MYR200 for 4 pax, which is slightly higher than Jiro. Moreover, not to ignore that the steamboat in XFY is ala carte that it does not come with any drinks or fruits.

Yet, it respects their customers by offering a wider choice to let their customers choose what they would like. While Jiro has customized the sets for their customers, embodied the time-efficiency.
